About All-Russian Lighting Research Institute named after S.I.Vavilov

VNISI – Russian Lighting Research Institute named after S.I.Vavilov. It is well known around the world as the leading research center of Russian lighting engineering.  Since it was found in 1951 until now research and development works have been carried out to create new sources of light, luminaries, ballasts, energy-saving systems of lighting as well as the elaboration of new standards and recommendations of different types of lighting and certification of lighting products as well.

On the basis of VNISI we created and actually working Illuminating Engineering Society of Russia, Russian National Committee of the International Commission on Illumination (Russian NC of the CIE), the editorial office of well-known magazine “Lighting Engineering”, Lighting Trade Association, Moscow Lighting House.

VNISI is a national center of lighting.

INTERLIGHT MOSCOW 2008: Final Report

There were hardly any signs of a crisis anywhere on the INTERLIGHT MOSCOW 2008. Exhibitors and expert visitors alike expressed their satisfaction with the trade fair results. More than 17,500 experts visited the 419 Russian and International exhibitions to gather information on the newest trends, technologies and products in the lighting industry.

LUX PACIFICA 2009
6th International Lighting Conference of the Illuminating Engineering Societies of the Pacific Basin Region

The 6th Lux Pacifica will now be held in Bangkok, capital of Thailand from 23 to 25 April 2009. (It was originally to be held in Khabarovsk in Russia on the same dates.) The first Lux Pacifica was held in 1989 in Shanghai, with successive conferences being in Bangkok, Nagoya, New Delhi and Cairns.

The President, Warren Julian, is proud to be hosting this important regional conference in Bangkok with the kind assistance of the Thai Illuminating Engineering Association and KMUTT.


The next Professional Lighting Designers Convention PLDC will take place in Berlin in October 2009.

The second Professional Lighting Design Convention PLDC will take place in Berlin in October 2009. After the overwhelming success of the first PLDC in London the next global convention for professional architectural lighting design PLDC will take place in Berlin from 29. - 31. October, 2009. PLDC is organised by VIA-Verlag, publisher of Professional Lighting Design magazine, and co-organised by the Professional Lighting Designers' Association PLDA. Lighting Associations and universities with lighting design programme from around the world will get invited as further partners.

Russian Lighting Research Institute and Lighting Trade Association are the Partner Associations for this event.

Gennady Shakhparunyants, General Director of Russian Lighting Research Institute, Vice-President of the CIE, President of the Illuminating Engineering Society of Russia and President of the Lighting Trade Association, has passed away after having suffered from serious illness on the 30th of December 2008
